Gatwick airport to install first Flash memory vending machine

NEWS: 12 April 2007 16:26 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Travelling used to require you stocking up on magazines, film for the camera and suntan lotion, however Kingston Technology is hoping you'll add memory cards to that list instead of film with the installation of a memory card vending machine at Gatwick Airport.

Kingston Technology has partnered with MyMemory Limited to provide the what it is claiming is the first Flash memory vending machine in the UK.

Customers who happen to be passing will be able to buy SD cards, CompactFlash cards and DataTraveler USB drives.

Kingston Technology says the plan is to place the vending machines in all major airports, mainline stations and underground stations, with additional high-traffic venues to follow later in the year.

“Our consumers are telling us they want greater storage capacity for their mobile phones, digital cameras and USB drives to store music, images, games, videos and personal data”, said Ann Keefe, Director of Sales UK & Ireland at Kingston Technology. “They want instant access to SD cards and USB drives as they need them 24/7, so vending machines in public spaces was the most obvious solution."
