NEWS: 31 August 2007 19:51 GMT by Stuart Miles

SanDisk has announced a number of new Memory card sizes at IFA 2007 in Berlin, Germany, today alongside a multi card reader for laptop users.

The new line-up includes a multi card express card adapter, boosting capacities in its high performance Ultra II line with 4GB SDHC Plus and 8GB memory stick PRO DUO cards, and SanDisk's announcement that it will offer 8GB memory stick Micro (M2) cards for mobile phones.

The SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter fits into the ExpressCard slot now found in most new notebook computers, and like a similar offering from Griffin, accepts six card formats: SD, SDHC, MultiMediaCard, MMCplus, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo.

The new adapter is expected to available in North America and Europe in September, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $29.99 in the United States. Suggested retail pricing in Europe is yet to be announced.

The 4GB SanDisk Ultra II SDHC Plus card will cost $79.99 in the US. The 8GB SanDisk Ultra II Memory Stick PRO Duo card will cost $159.99. Worldwide availability of both cards is targeted for October, however no price has been set for the UK as yet.

We will keep you posted.

Finally the company has said that it will offer an 8GB M2 card for Sony Ericsson mobile phones. The largest capacity M2 card in the world. The new card will allow consumers to listen to more than 2000 digital songs, or store more than 5000 high-resolution pictures, or up to 5 hours of high-quality MPEG4 videos.

Retail release of the cards and availability to phone manufacturers and network operators is planned for Q4 2007. Pricing has not yet been determined.
