Sigma launches two new telephoto lenses

Compact but powerful telephoto zooms

NEWS: 5 December 2007 7:21 GMT by Stuart Miles

Lens enthusiasts with either a full-frame or APS-C sized sensor DSLR should check out the latest telephoto optics from Sigma.

First up is the APO 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM for APS-C sensor cameras. This large aperture telephoto lens is compact despite boasting no less than four elements to minimise aberrations.

Its design also incorporates HSM focusing to cut down on noise but the camera also offers full time manual focusing. Specs include a minimum focusing distance of just 100cm and an f/2.8 maximum aperture. Check out the two teleconverters that are available for this lens boosting the focal range to either 70-210mm or 100-300mm.

The second launch is the designed for full-frame models. The APO 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM delivers a maximum magnification of 1:3.5 and a maximum magnification of 100cm, which means it is multi-purpose – suitable for anything from portraits and close-ups to landscape shots.

Like the 50-150mm lens, it is built around a HSM motor but also has two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and three Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) elements. Inner focusing, full-time manual focusing and an inner zooming system are also key draws to this new model.

Prices for both of the new optics have yet to be released but we’ll keep you posted.
