Tokina launches lenses pair

Optics for Canon and Nikon DSLRs users unveiled

NEWS: 18 December 2007 9:28 GMT by Katie Scott

A lens duo has been launched by Tokina for Canon and Nikon cameras.

First up is the AT-X M35 PRO DX macro optic, which delivers the equivalent to a 53.5mm focal length on Nikon DX and 56mm on Canon APS-C sized sensor DSLR.

It has an f/2.8-f/22 aperture and a closest focus distance of 14cm.

The lens is constructed from nine elements in eight groups, and has nine aperture blades.

It is 73.2x60.4mm (diameter x length) and weighs 340g.

Online reports add that the lens includes a focus limiter, and Tokina's Focus Clutch design to make it easier to switch from automatic to manual focus.

Next up is the AT-X 116 Pro DX, which offers a focal length of 11-16 mm and constant f/2.8 maximum aperture.

This focal length is a 35mm equivalent of 17-25mm with Nikon DX format cameras, and 18-26mm with Canon APS-C sized sensor DSLRs.

The lens, which is built from 13 elements in 11 groups, delivers a closest focus distance of 30 cm and a maximum magnification of 1:11.6.

It is 84x89.2 mm (diameter v. length) and weighs 560g.

The AT-X M35 PRO DX is due to be available from 21 December priced ¥68,000 (approximately $600). The AT-X 116 Pro DX will be available on the same day for ¥90,000 (around $800).

The pricing and availability for both of the new lenses outside of Japan are yet to be announced.
