Nikon launches Discovery Awards for students

Win a share of £50,000 worth of prizes

NEWS: 15 May 2008 12:07 GMT by Verity Burns

Nikon UK is looking for up and coming photographers to get snapping and enter its competition for a chance to win a share of £50,000 worth of prizes.

This will be the second year of the Discovery Awards, run in association with the British Journal of Photography.

The competition's aim to to support and celebrate the photography of students across the UK and Ireland by providing them with a platform to showcase their work on a national scale.

Selected colleges and universities that offer photographic courses have been invited to join the Nikon Academy, which makes their students eligible to enter, and also gives them access to specialised Nikon training, seminars and discounts.

Speaking of the competition Simon Bainbridge, editor of BJP, said: "We were delighted with the high standard of work we saw last year and the positive response to the competition. Now, with extra colleges added to the Nikon Academy of colleges, we look forward to establishing the Discovery Awards as the premier contest for student photographers".

The deadline for the competition is 31 October.
