Microsoft searches for Britain's most iconic images

And they want your help

NEWS: 26 June 2008 0:15 GMT by Verity Burns

From the Blackpool Tower to Geri Halliwell in "that" Union Jack dress, Microsoft is challenging the British public to choose the country's most iconic images.

The "Iconic Britain" microsite will be a digital image bank of the great sights, institutions, people and art that make up the UK as nominated by users of Microsoft's search engine, Live Search.

The public are encouraged to submit and vote for images that they think best represent Britishness, in a bid for their favourites to make it into the top 100 images that define the nation.

The search will run for eight weeks, culminating in August with the revelation of Britain's 100 most iconic images from 10 categories and an overall winning image.

The categories include everything from news and current affairs to fashion and style.

A panel of judges that includes Joanna Lumley and Brian Blessed, will vote on the most popular images submitted by the public to decide on the overall winner.

The best bit of all is that anyone submitting, or even voting for an image, will be in with the chance to win a Nikon camera, with more than 300 prizes up for grabs during the campaign.

Log onto the Iconic Britain website for full details.
