Fujifilm announces F60fd compact camera

Follow up to the F50fd finally uncovered

NEWS: 12 August 2008 13:19 GMT by Verity Burns

Among the other Fujifilm cameras officially announced today, the FinePix F60fd has been confirmed as the follow-up to the popular F50fd.

The F60fd features a 12 megapixel CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom, dual image stabilisation and a large 3.0" LCD screen. You also have the option to take full photographic control of your camera, or just opt for the auto mode for simple, fuss-free photography. The choice is yours.

Other nice extras that are featured on the new model are Face Detection 3.0 and brand new, proprietary, Scene Recognition technology.

Most compact digital cameras feature scene modes where you can select the most suitable one for the picture you are taking. In a first for Fujifilm cameras, the FinePix F60fd is equipped with Scene Recognition technology which cleverly detects a scene without the need of pre-selecting the mode on the camera. The different scenes that can be recognised are Portrait, Night, Landscape, and Macro.

As for Face detection 3.0, the technology goes one step further than regular face detection by recognising faces at more extreme angles. It can detect up to 10 faces in a scene in as little as 0.036 seconds, automatically correcting focus, exposure, and white balance, regardless of where subjects are located within the frame.

Face Detection 3.0 can also register faces with up to 90 degree movement in either direction for profiles, and with rotations of up to 360 degree. After the shot is taken, the system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.

The Fujifilm F60fd will be available in black from September this year. Pricing to be announced at a later date.
