Canon announces seven new Pixma all-in-one printers

Have a look at this little lot

NEWS: 26 August 2008 11:48 GMT by Verity Burns

Canon has announced a total of seven new all-in-one printers to add to its Pixma range.

There are three entry level printers - the MP190, MP240 and MP260. All feature a 4800x1200dpi resolution, use a 2pl Fine print head and the new Fine cartridges. The slightly pricier MP240 and MP260 can produce 10x15cm prints in around 45 seconds according to Canon, and also feature a self-opening paper tray and the new Auto Photo fix software with automatic red-eye removal. Where the two differ is in connectivity - the MP240 features Pictbridge technology for connection via USB, while the MP260 includes built-in memory card slots instead.

Mid-range there is the MP540 and MP620 which, for the extra cash, will provide higher quality, faster photo and document printing. Both provide up to double the resolution of the entry-level offerings, with 9600x2400dpi, use a 1pl Fine print head and have a 2400dpi scan resolution.

The MP540 and MP620 feature five Single Ink tanks which means you only need to replace the colour that's running out. The large pigment black ink is used just for text documents, while a separate dye black is used in photos which gives a better contrast. There are also two paper trays so you can have photo and plain paper loaded at the same time

Both feature TFT displays and offer memory card slots and PictBridge compatibility. However, the MP620 has the added functionality of Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity.

Finally, the high-end category is occupied by the MP630 and the MP980. They too have a print resolution of up to 9600x2400dpi and according to Canon, can churn out photolab quality prints in around 20 seconds.

The printers offer advanced media handling, with features such as Auto Duplex for double-side printing and copying, two-way paper feed and DVD/CD printing.

The MP980 is the flagship model of the range and features six new Single Ink tanks adding a new grey ink for top monochrome printing. It also has the largest TFT display in the all-in-one line-up with an 8.8cm screen.

Another addition on this model is the 4800dpi scanner with white LED reflective scanning and 35mm film and slide scanning. It needs no warm-up time so you can get scanning almost instantly.

All of the all-in-ones are bundled with Canon's Easy-PhotoPrint EX software, which helps you make calendars and the like from your photos. However, the MP980 also features Easy-PhotoPrint Pro software, an Adobe Photoshop plug-in, that will give you greater control over both colour and monochrome printing.

The range will be available from October and the prices are as follows:

Pixma MP190 - £49.99

Pixmas MP260 - £69.99

Pixma MP540 - £89.99

Pixma MP620 - £159

Pixma MP630 - £129

Pixma MP980 - £279

There was no pricing for the MP240 on the release we received, but we'll update you as soon as we get it.
