Olympus Mju 1050 adds tap control to digital camera

Plus the Mju 1040 announced as well

NEWS: 25 August 2008 11:34 GMT by Stuart Miles

Following on from the launch of the Mju 1060 at the beginning of August, Olympus has announced two more models to its Mju range.

The Mju 1050 (actually called the Stylus 1050 in the US) will not only come with weatherproofing and the usual shockproof tough casing, but will also come with a new feature called double tap that allows you to adjust settings and review images by simply tapping on the camera body rather than pressing a specific button.

The second camera to be announced is the Mju 1040 a virtually identical camera that doesn't come with the tap feature.

Both it and the Mju 1050 will come with a 10-megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom.

Other features include an Intelligent Auto mode that detects the five most commonly used scenes and adjusts settings, focus and exposure automatically, as well as, Face Detection of up to 16 people, a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD, and movie recording with sound (up to VGA resolution at 30fps).

The Olympus Mju 1040 will be available in September 2008 for an approximate value of £149.99 while that tap control and tough casing will add a further £110 bringing the Mju 1050 up to £259.99, a considerable premium over the US price of $299.99.
