Canon Pixma iP3600 and iP4600 photo printers announced

More printers from Canon

NEWS: 26 August 2008 13:27 GMT by Verity Burns

Canon has announced two new additions to its Pixma range of photo printers.

The Pixma iP3600 and the iP4600 share a lot of the same features, with a few differences in the iP4600 for higher end users.

They offer 9600x2400dpi resolution and use 1pl Fine print heads for high quality printing. Both printers support Canon's ChromaLife100+ system, which means when Canon photo paper is used, the combination of the print head and ink produces longer-lasting prints.

There are five Single Ink cartridges - pigment black, dye black, dye cyan, magenta and yellow - which should make for more efficient printing as you only need replace the cartridge that is empty.

Printing speeds between the two differ, with the iP4600 being able to produce 10x15cm borderless prints in around 20 seconds, while the iP3600 takes are 41 seconds. The iP4600 also incorporates advanced media handling with DVD/CD printing and Auto Duplex function for double-sided printing.

However both printers are PictBridge compatible so you can link up a phone or camera via USB for PC-less printing. Both also come with Easy-PhotoPrint EX software which gives you the ability to make calendars, albums and other artwork with your pictures, and also includes Auto Photo Fix which automatically enhances photos and removes red-eye.

The printers will be available from October and will be priced at £69.99 for the iP3600 and £89.99 for the iP4600.
