Nikon announces AF-S DX 18-105mm lens for D90

For the versatile photographer

NEWS: 27 August 2008 13:40 GMT by Verity Burns

Nikon has introduced a new lens designed to partner with the long-awaited D90.

The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105MM F/3.5-5.6G ED VR has a focal length between 18 and 105mm, equivalent to 27 to 157.5mm in 35mm format.

The lens features a wide zoom range that would make it suitable for shooting buildings and scenery while the telephoto zoom range makes it a good choice for portraits too. Definitely handy for the more versatile photographer.

The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105MM F/3.5-5.6G ED VR has the Vibration Reduction II system built-in, that provides the equivalent of a shutter speed three stops faster than standard lenses. Also built-in is the Silent Wave Motor that ensures your autofocus is as quiet and fast as possible.

The optical system in the lens features a single ED glass element and one aspherical lens optimised for use with D-SLRs. This will allow you to make high resolution, high contrast images, and minimise chromatic aberration.

What's more, this lens can be combined with the AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, giving a whopping focal length that covers 18-450mm. You'll be able to snap near on anything with that.

The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105MM F/3.5-5.6G ED VR will be supplied with the D90 in a special kit, according to Nikon.
